33 | Mycelium // pt 1

Writer's picture: Tom HolleyTom Holley

Below I have listed a few related pieces to accompany this post, especially see 19 & 29 (fungal life cycles) which correspond to the life of mycelium. This post however, the first part at least will focus on Mycelium as a whole & its history, before like other proceeding parts will go more specific into an area much like I have done with others.

Mycelium is the vegetative body of a fungus, many of which never go on to produce a a fruiting body, the mushroom.

What makes mycelium so successful is a seen in hypha & there ability to clockwork a 360 degree growth by reverting back and forth. With growth from the tip unlike a plant root, this makes them more adaptable in reading situations, saving energy & resource, for example when searching for new space to grow in soils or on substrates, these hypha become hyphae, finally a mycelial mass.
